Depression
Depression does not get to have the final say.
Depression can affect how we think, feel, and engage with the world around us.
Depression, and its impact on both mental and physical wellness, can pose deep challenges for the person experiencing its symptoms as well as for the loved ones who care about them. It may involve persistent sadness, loss of interest in activities once enjoyed, changes in sleep or eating patterns, irritability, difficulty concentrating, and feelings of guilt or low self-worth.
Experiencing sadness is a normal part of the human experience. However, when feelings of sadness become persistent and begin to interfere with a person’s sense of self, relationships, or ability to participate in daily life, it may indicate a depressive episode. Research suggests that approximately 1 in 6 adults in the United States will experience depression at some point in their lives, making it one of the most common mental health concerns today.
Depression is often complex and influenced by many factors, including biological predispositions, life experiences, environmental stressors, and sometimes physical health conditions. Because of this, treatment often takes a comprehensive approach that considers emotional, psychological, and lifestyle factors together.
At Refuge, counseling for depression focuses on helping individuals better understand their experiences, develop healthier coping strategies, and reconnect with sources of meaning and support. Therapy may include a combination of evidence-based approaches, lifestyle adjustments, and collaboration with medical providers when appropriate.
Depression does not have to rob you of your time and sense of peace.
With the right support and resources, individuals can begin to manage symptoms, rediscover hope, and move toward a life that feels more balanced and fulfilling.
